MVS Tay were asked to provide an escort and safety vessel to assist David Winch in his sponsored row from the centre of Perth to Broughty Ferry to raise funds for the RNLI and the Marie Curie Foundation.

Going up towards Perth. David’s boat is lashed to the deck of Marigot as we are passed by a freighter coming back down.

The landscape and the evening light was superb on the trip upriver.

Oliver at the helm takes Marigot past the Tail of Mugdrum. Bob takes the Crisps of Walkers, navigating them in the usual manner with practised ease..

Just past the mouth of the Earn

The Tay can turn quite Wagnerian when the light suits it.

Passing Kinnoul Hill

Brave lads. Tied up, shipshape and looking for anything that might be funny. The crisps were good but now it’s time to get serious.

Later on, it got dark.

Darker for some than others of course. Last thing on Marigot, we always put the parrot to sleep for the night. He’ll stay here motionless  like this until we whip the towel away and feed him in the morning.

Down to business. Piglet tows  David the short extra distance up to the centre of Perth.

We’re not sure what the bus fare is between Perth and Dundee but, as a Scottish unit, we salute anyone who’s prepared to go to these lengths to avoid paying it.

David rowed the entire trip looking backwards but always missed obstacles like the river bank etc. He has uncanny ablilities.  Marigot in the distance is turning round, preparing to follow.

Calm at first light

Approaching the Friarton Bridge

A bit early for a barbecue but Bob perseveres.

David was doing fine

As above with rain.......all the way to Broughty Ferry

To be met by the “Elizabeth of Glamis” and her crew

“Oh you are awful”.

Ok, Time to row back to Perth now.

Good one. Congratulations.
