Taymara - Wed 13th August.

Bob introduces the Taymara trainees to Marigot at Woodhaven slip, after last week's basic instruction on board North Carr lightship.

As ever, personal safety is continually stressed.

Preparing to leave.

All the trainees got hands on experience at the helm. It's fair to say they enjoyed it.

Marigot demands a lot of concentration as Helen discovers at first hand.

The route took us along to Flisk Point on the South shore of the Tay, returning to Woodhaven. Use of the GPS was demonstrated but mostly we were steering to a chosen point, in this case the strip of trees just before the headland.

Taking the helm of Marigot is both demanding and rewarding. Larry learnt quickly. Trainees were also introduced to low speed manoeuvering using only the engines.

All the trainees showed a real aptitude for the task.

Compared to steering a car, taking the helm of a vessel demands co-ordination, total concentration and even a touch of second sight.

On the stern, Jim taught the basic knots that will be used later.

Returning to Woodhaven. Linda was asked to keep Brian (ex RN) right and did so!

News and Updates - 6th August 2008

Dolphins in the Tay

The fascination of seeing dolphins in their environment for the first time is shared by everyone in our unit who have still never got used to seeing them.

Rainbow in the Tay

This was the strangest rainbow any of us had ever seen. Even Dave, who's an astronomer reckoned that it wasn't possible.

There it was, though.

Rainbow in the Tay 3

This was a birthday present for one of our passengers. (The one with the rainbow over her head)

Boat trip on the River Tay - Marigot

The weather was completely bizarre this day. This is Jim thinking. The thought cloud that emanates from his head is another atmospheric phenomana.

Biblical clouds today. And dolphins.

Dolphins Trips - 27th July 2008

In spite of banks of thick fog which at one point reduced visibility to less than 50 yds an extended pod of about 40 dolphins were seen between the Horseshoe and the Craig buoys.
