Update 17th September 2006

Our passenger carrying boat trips have continued throughout the summer with Marigot and Badger going out as often as tides and crew availability allows. The trips have become increasingly popular over the three years that we've been running them.

Marigot and passengers on a still summer's evening approaching the Horseshoe buoy with the Fife coast in the background

Marigot and Badger are usually out together now, giving more people the opportunity to see the River Tay as it should be seen - from the water -  and giving all our members good experience of crewing and skippering.

Dolphins off the starboard bow.

The dolphins appear quite relaxed around both vessels as they know they can trust us not to make sudden manoeuvers or to chase them. Even when they're busy feeding they'll come up to both vessels briefly before returning to the business on hand.

This baby dolphin has grown noticably over the summer. Almost white to begin with, its colour has grown darker until now it's quite close to the adult's colouration.

This one started in the distance and kept jumping again and again right past the stern of the boat before swerving around to come close alongside and jump some more.

Arbroath Sea Fest

MVS Tay attended the Seafest this year, taking Marigot and staying over the weekend.

This is Marigot's wheelhouse and the vessel behind is "Reaper" - a beautifully preserved fishing vessel well known around these parts and beyond

Hello David. Not an eye injury...it's just that the other lens ...went somewhere else. Yes, it is a nice day....

...unlike the weather on the passage up to Arbroath....

...which we all thoroughly enjoyed

Callum's rabbit ears are a real asset in fog, allowing us to maintain a "listening watch" over the sound of the engines.

This poor thing got washed up on the beach at Broughty Ferry. An Ocean Sunfish (mola mola). This is a juvenile and measured about 4 feet from nose to tail - the adults can reach 11ft in length and weigh up to 2 tons. It's far from its usual haunts which should be much warmer waters and probably got swept into the Tay on a flood tide.

A week later ....

Now we've got a pelican - What's going on?

It's hanging out with a large number of swans where the Dighty Burn enters the Tay, giving a new twist to the Ugly Duckling theme.

Very low tides this month gave a chance to see some familiar spots from unfamiliar angles - This is the Pilot Pier at Broughty Ferry where Badger and Marigot embark their passengers. (We also use Woodhaven for the Perth trips)

Looking like a still from an episode of "Thunderbirds" this is actually a full size wreck. This is marked on the Admiralty chart  at Jock's Hole near the Rail Bridge and it's unusual to get such a good view of it.

It's definately not recommended to try to walk out to this as the mud is very deep and then the tide comes back in.......
